Students mostly interested in grades :(
A year after the BJA decided to change their kyu grades to an entirely technical syllabus, it seems to be having a strong impact on the structure of lessons, maybe not for the best.
I recently created an anonymous survey to get some feedback from my students to see what they want from sessions. Grading syllabus practice for a number of folks seemed more important than contest Judo. They are focusing on grade attainment rather than realising that with regular Judo practice grades will come.
Could do with reversing this trend, really want students that are at training to learn Judo rather than just chasing grade. A coloured belt is not the same as being 'good' IMO.

I am really interested in your data, I think it is a really valid concern that the new grading system might be encouraging participation for different reasons, possibly the wrong reasons both in terms of Judo as a way of life and even as Judo for competition/Olympic glory.
If you data is able to be shared, I'd love to crunch the numbers and present it on JudoMetrics.com
